The Game Environment
As we mentioned, you arrive in the game with the bare minimum to start, and your first hours are spent frantically searching for resources, crafting, and building, all while monitoring your fragile health. No matter what you work on, shelter and weapons degrade over time, and your hunger monitor steadily decreases. All of this makes it difficult enough to survive, without other players lurking in the game area, actively trying to take you down.It's possible to avoid other players by heading to an unpopulated part of the map to settle, but even here the game has other ideas. Occasionally an attack helicopter appears and complicates your life, but at other times a different plane or helicopter appears and drops a box full of useful items.
The purpose of this, besides helping you with those items, is to attract scattered players to a single point for a quick and highly challenging PvP battle, the winner of which can keep not only the plane's goods, but any valuable items the other players have painstakingly gathered.
Players can use vehicles found randomly scattered throughout the map. These are great for quick exploration, but like hunger, vehicles—which include boats, hot air balloons, and cars—need to be refueled regularly.
Is there a safe space somewhere?
There is! There are spaces designated as safe trading posts protected by NPC-controlled turrets. Anyone who betrays the code of honor of the space will be quickly eliminated, and even if they survive, they will be marked as hostile to all NPCs in the vicinity for some time thereafter.You can also team up with other players, who might randomly decide to help you by giving you surplus supplies, pointing you in the right direction, or simply not killing you at the first opportunity. A good idea is to form alliances with players from all over the world to always have someone actively playing and maintaining your camp.
Where to Play
There are three playing zones, and two of them will require a bit of planning before embarking on an exploratory trip:Neutral: a temperate zone where you first spawn. Temperatures are mild enough to survive naked for a short period, and plants grow easily with proper care.Arctic: a frozen wasteland that can yield unexpected treasures, but you must first survive the inclement and unpleasant conditions. Warm clothing, a ready fire/heat source, and food supplies are just the beginning of your planning for a stroll through this region!Desert: having survived the Arctic, head for the constant sun and severe lack of potable water that desert zones have to offer.While this game might be better suited for combat raiders than world builders, it's fun and full of both game modes to suit all players. But don't get too comfortable with your carefully collected treasures and camp: occasionally, a map wipe will take it down, erasing all your hard work and restarting the game to give beginners a chance.
