About the Game
The protagonists are siblings Amicia and Hugo. Amicia is the main character and has been entrusted with the task of saving Hugo, her younger brother, who is ill with some kind of blood condition. However, it turns out that this blood condition is part of the reason they are in trouble: the villain seeks to use Hugo's blood to seize some of the powers it confers. Powers that neither Hugo nor Amicia are aware of.Amicia must strive to save her brother, even though at one point he sided with the villain, feeling confused about who is and who isn't on his side. Amicia can craft weapons, storage items, and other objects using a workbench, and must strive to stay one step ahead of the Inquisition soldiers at all times.
Hugo: More Than Meets the Eye
Hugo is a skilled companion when he is with Amicia, and can be assigned to perform minor tasks when Amicia is busy. However, he cannot craft items, Amicia being the only character in the game with this ability.Hugo, who becomes a playable character later in the game, can control rats thanks to the supernatural power residing in his blood: the true cause of his illness. He is also small enough to squeeze into tight spaces where Amicia would not fit. This gives him some very particular advantages and means that playing as him can be more desirable at times, even if he is unable to craft items if necessary.
When the siblings reunite, later in the game, all their abilities combine to be used simultaneously and defeat enemies more quickly.
Plagues of Soldiers and Rats
Initially, the children must hide from the furious enemy soldiers of the Inquisition, and wander around, exploring and searching for Hugo's doctor in the hope that he can help them. As they find workbenches, Amicia can craft the necessary items that allow them to improve their lives or help them survive.Later, swarms of hungry rats descend upon the unsuspecting, consuming and sickening them. However, the seemingly unstoppable rats have a weakness: light. This allows the children to survive some rather complicated scenes, as they use this weakness to their advantage.
The medieval setting prevents the use of any modern artifacts that would otherwise have allowed the use of some 'traps' to make the children's journey easier. Instead, things must be done the "old fashioned way," with ingenuity, crafting the right tools, and thinking strategically to take advantage of one's strengths.
Survive the Tale for a Positive Outcome
The game can be described as a series of survival puzzles, with a compelling and exciting story that fills the gaps between moments of high tension as the children fight for survival. The appearance of rats is most chilling, especially when they attack the characters. They will undoubtedly cause a great sense of horror, even for the most hardened horror fans!There are many trials and adversities to overcome throughout the game, and each chapter must be satisfactorily completed before the loose ends of the story can be resolved. But the good news is that a happy ending can be achieved – or at least there is a possibility of doing so – with the return of a beloved character who was presumed dead, making the gaming experience most satisfying.
Emotionally, Hugo picks a flower at the successful conclusion of each chapter, and tucks it into Amicia's hair, as a symbol of his recognition of the debt he owes her for keeping him alive and as safe as possible.
